Has anyone ever been audited by the IRS and how much did you end up oweing them?

I want to see if anyone knows someone who was audited by the irs and how much did they get from you.

  1. my in laws were audited twice. The IRS ending up owing THEM both times. They were never audited again.

    If you’ve had someone prepare your taxes and haven’t intentionally lied/hid anything, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. If I were you, I’d ask an Accountant to look over your files..maybe you forgot a deduction :) See if you can get the IRS to pay YOU ;) Either way….go in prepared! Don’t let the IRS agent bully you.

  2. Well you just stirred my pot honey and yes I was audited (I paid a professional tax/business consultant) and I now owe over $14,980.00 to them. There is no recourse against the person who prepared them. The real beauty of my situation is: I DID PROVIDE FULL DISCLOSURE TO MY TAX GUY AND HE SIGNED MY RETURN…..I didn’t even see it before it was mailed. OOOOH, you sure do know how to ruffle my feathers.

  3. I was audited once. The initial letter from the IRS proposed an adjustment that would have increased my taxes by $6,000. After I prepared and submitted all of my documentation for business expenses (they were auditing a Schedule C) by mail, they settled on an adjustment of $500.

  4. Jo has been audited more than once. Last time while in the audit while in an IRS office, Jo discovered a mistake he had made,, and found he was due a refund. Jo asked for a check,, was told it would come soon. Jo asked for interest from that day forward and got it. Jo got a 1099INT from IRS reporting the interest they paid so it could added it on next years return.
