Try an internship. You can also try volunteering at some place like legal aid or other agency that serves the poor. Ask your instructors and the program director for suggestions. Do they have a placement program?
Some law firms, especially big ones, might prefer to hire people without a lot of experience because they can train them to their way of doing things.
For what it’s worth, we have three paralegals at my firm. One was trained by the firm, one has taken some paralegal classes, and the other was a lawyer.
Researching citations, filing documents, doing legal research for the attorney, preparing documents. You do a lot of the work of the attorney under his supervision. The attorney checks your work and appears in court. As a rule, paralegal jobs are full time because their workloads are full time and more. Attorneys want their paralegals to be at their side the entire work day.For that reason you won’t find many P/T paralegal openings.
Internships. Check your local bar association or any law firms and ask if they would need any intern help. great way to get your credentials up, but you’re probably not going to get paid or get paid much.
