What type of leadership style do you use and how effective is it?

I just need some ideas because I am appointed to be the next Manager of the bank where I am currently working. :)

  1. The Prince, Machiavellian.

jk, congratulations on your promotion though.

I am assuming you work at a commercial bank and not an investment bank, so the people you are managing will be rank and file level employees, with very limited decision making beyond adherence to protocol. Factoring in your physical appearance, Laissez-Faire will most likely save you the most trouble and prevent the most problems and conflicts in the long run.

  2. You don’t want to use just one management style. When things are running well, you can be mostly laze-fare, when there is time, use it to build consensus, when there isn’t be autocratic. The key to being a good Manager is to know what style to use when.

  3. Great question and congratulations on your new position. I find that being an inspirational leader is a positive way to create a happy workplace. This style includes:

    1. Letting people do their jobs with minimal interference.
    2. Learning what employees love to do and focusing their jobs on those talents.
    3. Letting go of the need to control people.
    4. Being a resource for learning only when people ask.
    5. Praising employees regularly.
    6. Encouraging employees to be independent.
    7. Listening.
    8. Building a collaborative work environment.
    9. Using employee ideas to improve processes.
    10. Getting out of the way.

The idea in inspirational leadership is to encourage people to grow and succeed rather than bossing them around.
